About Sophie
A wise guide, and a mirror.
Loving, not as a feeling, but as a space of total acceptance.
I am not here to convince anyone. I am looking for the hungry ones.
At twelve, I understood that the sheltered world I had been handed was not the whole of reality. Something in me refused to sleepwalk through a life I had not chosen. At eighteen I left home to find out what was true.
What followed was not a straight line. It rarely is.
A life lived at the edges
I studied philosophy, argumentation and advocacy in France, and trained in mediation in Paris. But my real education happened elsewhere: as a refugee of war, a helicopter pilot, a teacher, a relief worker. I have lived on a farm, on a boat, in a penthouse, and in an ashram in India. I have been shot at and shipwrecked. I loved a man named Murray, and I lost him far too soon.
Grief, it turns out, is a doorway. So is everything, once you are awake to it.
I shifted from a hypnotised, automatic mind to the calm of wholeness. That is the whole of my work.
Eighty thousand rooms
For thirty-five years I led transformational seminars across more than twenty countries, as faculty and a global leader for one of the world's largest personal-development companies. Tens of thousands of people sat in those rooms. I learned what wakes a human being, and what only sends them back to sleep more comfortably.
And then I left it all. Not out of disappointment, but out of clarity. I went on a spiritual quest, and out of it came my courses: a blend of philosophy and spirituality.
Thirty-five years of rooms exactly like this one.
Menorca, and what remains
Today I live simply on the island of Menorca, close to the sea, the olive trees, and the silence. I am becoming more spiritual and more empty, and I find I need very little. No woo-woo, no complicated stories, no drama. Only the elegance of simplicity.
I am dedicated to one thing now: the quiet creation of a new culture for humankind, a culture of awareness and consciousness. It begins with you.
We are spiritual beings, briefly having a human experience.— Pierre Teilhard de Chardin
Sophie McLean has supported me with her expertise and skills and has enabled me to succeed with key projects related to advancing sustainable development in developing countries around the world for my department in the United Nations. With regard to assessing the quality of Mrs. McLean's work as a senior management consultant, I would rank her among the top consulting firms.
