Let me tell you about the overall journey from the divine to where you are now…
It is important to comprehend that the divine is, and will stay, a mystery. Many people ask the question “What is life all about?” The best answer I have come across so far is that the Divine wants to experience Itself. So the Divine breathes out the quantum dimension and the material dimension. The experience of enlightenment, also called Oneness, Wholeness, or Divine Unity, can happen to us, but we don’t have access to make it happen. On the other hand, it is possible for us to dwell, inquire, and experience the quantum, and, obviously, the material dimension, and prepare ourselves for the ultimate awakening.
As a human being, we need to mature, grow up morally and ethically, think globally and holistically, and at the same time connect, elevate and dwell in the spiritual. I call it expanding horizontally and vertically.
This is what it means to be a Homo spiritus. Dr. David Hawkins, M.D., Ph.D., believes there is a forthcoming step in human evolution from Homo sapiens, the current reign of the ego, to Homo Spiritus, or the "awakened [hu]man" who marks "the beginning of the emergence of a new, evolutionary branch of [hu]mankind."
Homo sapiens operate only horizontally, looking for energy outside themselves. Homo spiritus can operate both vertically and horizontally, in the quantum and the material.
What is available for you in this course is to be the originator of both expansions.
We have used the book the Elegance of Simplicity to map out for you an individual soul journey so you can recognize your own. Every human being answers to the same design while doing it as an individual. This means that the very design of human beings is not personal to you, and yet, it impacts you personally.
In some cases, we have altered the order of the chapters of the book to facilitate your own awakening. If you surrender to following our design, even if you might meet a little bit of inconsistency in the order of the chapters, you will have the experience that you seek.
The Soul’s Journey consists of four Acts:
There is and always will be the mystery of the Divine, also called consciousness. This will stay forever a mystery and need to be accepted as such.
Our journey begins at the creation of the quantum field, what scientists call the Big Bang. This is a non-linear world, where intelligence resides. It is not available through your five senses, and it is beyond your mind and your intellect.
Your experience of the quantum world will arise for you when you let go of all you believe and identify with.
The two chapters in this lesson are the author's personal experience of this world. They are not to be believed, nor to be understood. They are to be listened to as an inspiration for your own experience: give yourself permission to let go and enter your own world of intuition.
The quantum world is not linear. Language is too limited to describe it. Let yourself listen to these chapters, willing to have your own experience arise without any proof, without any understanding.
It might occur to you as a wild fantasy, but why would it be less real than the stories we create in our everyday, material life?
Give yourself permission to step into this world, where the truth captures you. This is intimate, this is your own, precious, sacred relationship to the spiritual. Let listening to those chapters take you to the world of wonderment.
Act 2 Begins
Inside of the concept of our soul’s journey (see the map), at a very early age, we all go through the refusal of the call to adventure.
The difficulty of incarnations on earth arises because of the one inviolate rule of the human game. Every incarnation must forget its divinity very soon after its arrival in the body. And at the very moment it forgets its divinity, the soul also forgets the golden rule of the universe: the harvest is always in perfect correlation with what is being sown.
This is the refusal of the call, the fall from grace, the very moment where you forget who you really are, and you start creating your own story.
You forget you chose to incarnate, you forget who you really are and, now disconnected from your soul, you are looking for energy outside of yourself, surviving a world occurring as dangerous and frightening: a place you need to survive.
You will notice that this chapter in the book is called "The Prologue”- meaning “before” what you have heard so far. But I want you to get present to the moments of truth we are talking about in the chart.
Those moments have different flavors: sometimes your life- even if you are fine, doing quite well, or are not having much to complain about- is just unbearably normal and you know there must be something else. Or, it is when everything comes crashing down and you are gasping for breath: those are easier to notice!
There are many ‘moments of truth’ in our life. Hear them as the call of your soul to elevation: both as a human being, operating in the material world, leaving egocentrism behind, and as a transcendent impulse to connect to the spiritual.
And to make sure you do not spend your time worrying about missing one of those existential moments, look at it this way: life can be compared to an ocean, with its waves and storms, with its calm and tranquility, its sunrises and sunsets. Imagine people as surfers on the waves of life. Our surfboard is our life, and we will have it until our death. If we do not manage to take one wave into shore, another will always follow and carry us in. Storms pass, just like the good weather. The cycle is endless. The experience of being alive is an adventure, and when we accept it, we enter the presence of the irresistible, which opens us up to gratitude and wonder.
Chapters four and five will be the descent into the depths of the illusion that we create. You will be able to hear all the suffering, the struggles, and the signs that you missed about taking the illusionary road of the ego. You wanted power, you only got imprisonment. You built a cage, a rigid jail, and put yourself in it. That mistake is at the source of what the ancient Greeks called "the human tragedy."In my experience of working with over 80,000 people, there is a design to it, explained in the audio section of this lesson. Do not make the design wrong, do not resist it. It seems that there is a divine intention that will stay a mystery while we are on earth. It seems that suffering is one of the Kinetic energies that push us to elevate our consciousness. We all need to follow the descent into hell before we can arise and connect to authentic power, which Dante described so well:
"Wandering through a dark forest, Dante finds himself at the gates to the underworld.
Despite his terror, he dares to enter the Circles of Hell, where the damned lie in torment.
As he descends deeper, he encounters wild-eyed sinners,
sees the three-headed, howling hound Cerberus,
and meets a long-dead prophet who foretells Dante's destiny."
-The Descent into Hell by Dante Alighieri, Dorothy L. Sayers translator.
In these two chapters, you will understand how you created yourself as a persona, as a character, as an individual, as an “I”. And even more important, how you believed it was the truth about you! You see, the only truth about yourself is that you are. The moment you add language after “I am,” that is the descent into hell.
That is the story. That is the illusion.
This lesson is where you decide the image, the appearance, the way you will relate to others. You can call it your public image. It is the persona you adopt in the presence of others. This is what you will allow other human beings to see, while hiding what you think is flawed with yourself.
To survive means to exist despite adversity. The illusion of having to repair what was broken in yourself is deep because you firmly believe you are flawed. It is this very illusion that is a trap and is the source of suffering.
A problem arises when we have what we do not want, or we do not get what we want. Our past scars and pains are the problem: we look for solutions to fix it.
We think the only way to solve our problem inside is to look for a solution outside of ourselves. We look for things outside of ourselves (love, money, travels, parties, food) hoping that one day, we will feel okay. It is true that something new will distract us for a while, but not for long.
The only way to reach liberation is to let go of our blockages by experiencing them. Then we can let ourselves experience the whole of life's symphony without resisting any of its instruments.
Chapters 7 and 8 is where you will set in stone the one and only way you will deal with the material life. You will now be on a narrow, rigid, lonely path. This path is filled with efforts, struggle, and despair, with nowhere to get to, never reaching the place you so yearn for where you could rest. This is the walking of a weighed down, tired, hungry human that has lost the hope of bliss and grace.
If you resist the simplicity of the system of survival, know it is the reason nothing has changed since the beginning of time. You identify yourself with your stories and what is observable: your body, your personality, your character, your thoughts, your emotions, and the circumstances of the world.
The same patterns are repeated century after century. On the one hand, we now have more technological means, and our living conditions are continually improving; but on the other, we are always destroying ourselves. Humankind does not transform itself, which leaves a destructive expansion of technology as our only option: the only progress we make is in our capacity to destroy ourselves.
Awareness is the ultimate power: generate the courage to go through the pain, emotions, feelings or heartbreak you have been resisting, and liberation awaits you.
The previous lessons depict how we forge our personality. The design of the ego is absolutely brilliant, as each decision corresponds to a stage of our development. The rest of our life would only be a repetition of these incidents until you realize, little by little, that you are the originator of those decisions—that the circumstances of life, however tragic they may be, did not condemn you to being a victim.
Acceptance is the path to freedom. In the best-case scenario, age and experience lead us to let go and to realize the absurdity of the game of survival. The weakening of our body, the bitterness of failures, the futility of success, the despair of suffering, the disappointed hope of an imagined future, but also the ephemeral nature of happiness and our constant dissatisfaction all lead us to this understanding.
In the best case.
Otherwise, we realize the absurdity of survival a few minutes before dying, and it is then too late to discover life.
This lesson is about bringing awareness to the grace and gift that love is. It is the other kinetic energy (the other being suffering) that allows you to elevate yourself with grace and ease.
Notice how we always yearn to reach out and become one with something bigger. We strive for Oneness. Love is an infinite expansion of perspective. You could say that love is the drive, the impulse, to elevation. It is the very fabric of the universe.
When you are not in the space of love anymore, then you become a sufferer. You go down to the space of egocentric victimization. Nothing matters anymore, other than you as a character. The suffering is so intense that you lash out, blame, dominate, some of us even make ourselves sick or depressed.
Suddenly the loved one is an enemy. All that is left is anger, resentment, and the desire to hurt. There is no communication, no experience of the other except as a threat: the desire to damage, to belittle, to get revenge rules and takes over every thought, every feeling, every action.
What happened? The destructive side of the ego got activated and the need to be right kidnaps us. Forget about love, compassion, and relatedness. We need to ‘win’ at any cost. We do not know it has nothing to do with what is actually happening. We cannot know it: we are not there anymore.
When the cost to go on destroying gets too high, when we might lose something dear to us, we let go of our position, of our desire to hurt the other, and suddenly, as if by a miracle, the sun breaks through the dark clouds and the beauty of the world awakens again. The colors illuminate all around us like a divine paintbrush erasing the obscurity. The weight of separation lifts to be replaced by love, care, humor, and connectedness. We are back, having fulfilled on what is possible, honoring the universal rule dictating forever that we always reap what we sow. Only light can disappear obscurity.
You need to confront this shadow part of yourself: the option that you have to destroy what is possible. Do not be scared of it. Do not resist it. Do not hide it. You need to go through the Valley of Death to arrive at the oasis. You need to include every single aspect of this epic journey. Tame the dragon. Let yourself experience what I call the low-level emotions: despair, anger, rage, sadness, shame, guilt. And once you experience it, you will awaken to the world again.
This lesson is about another existential moment of truth that life will give you and that you need to recognize. Suffering is a kinetic energy. What does that mean? Well, when you are deep in a black hole of despair, when suffering is now your reality- there is only one way, and it is up. You will reach the point where there is nowhere else to go but up. So kick hard and get yourself out of the hole! People, adventures, interests, projects, making a difference, contributing- those are the “kicks” I’m talking about. Surrender, life will be better to you than you are to yourself.
I invite you to take on awareness as a habit: develop a profound determination to use every circumstance you encounter as a lesson in awareness.
The road to consciousness is not an easy one, but better the difficulty of a life spent in search of the extraordinary, rather than the ordinary.
This lesson is about the wealth of insights, teachings, and wisdom already spoken and written about since the beginning of the ages.
Now is the time to educate yourself.
You need to get to the source of what happened to you. Do not allow it to be a mystery, or you will stay miserable.
You learn, you grow, you comprehend your shadow and destructive sides so that you can master being the originator. Then it (whatever your "it" is from your past) does not have you, you have it.
Being the originator does not mean being the cause of something, does not mean being at fault or deserving blame or praise, does not mean something morally, socially, or legally correct, or incorrect.
The word originator can be used as a context to operate inside of, a gift one bestows on oneself to be operating in a chosen realm. There is no relationship of cause and effect between a context and its content: a context gives access to a specific view of life’s circumstances.
Operating in the realm of victimization, being a sufferer, involves losing one’s power, as by definition a victim had none, and operating in the realm of being the originator allows for one’s power to arise.
Being a sufferer has one wallow in misery; while being the originator demands one to accept what is and what is not. Being a sufferer allows for emotions like resentment, anger and hate, sadness and regrets; while being the originator calls for forgiveness and surrender.
The choice is ours.
Nothing is new in this world, nothing gets created, really. It is already there. You can go to Socrates, Aristotle, even Homer, all the way to Ken Wilber, Eckhart Tolle, or Alan Watts- it has all been said. Find what and who will resonate with you.
Considering life as a game creates a liberating context. The different games we create all have what is called an ‘at stake-ness’. And the way we play them depends on it. The more important the matter is and the more it concerns others and the world, the more the game is serious. We can stop playing Monopoly without great consequences. We cannot do the same if the life of someone is dependent on it.
Therefore, a game can be very serious, with more or less important outcome and consequences. But "serious" does not mean significant or better than another because there is no intrinsic meaning in a game, as we create them! In the same vein, losing the game does not mean the end of our hopes as there is no meaning in failing and it is not a measure of our worthlessness. At most, it can be an indication of capabilities to develop.
The ups and downs of life are to be accepted with fluidity. It is not because you have reached a high level of consciousness that you will not have circumstances, but the huge difference is how you are being in the face of those circumstances.
So, the magic question is: what is there for me to learn so that I can elevate my level of consciousness?
Risk-taking is indeed a paradox. If we are everything and nothing, there cannot be any risks, because we are the authors of the games we play. While most of us understand that paradox, we are nonetheless often faced with quite an array of unwelcomed emotions during the process. In the context of experiencing the whole of life, our feelings, while uncomfortable, need to be created as a welcome register to our giving it all. If you are too comfortable, you are playing too small!
Where does wisdom fit in that thought? In not identifying with the feelings while experiencing them.
"It is necessary to go to the irreparable loss, the irreversible disaster, the long kiss of parks, the lunar miscarriage, before acceding entirely to one’s own birth.’"
- Vincent La Soudière
Now you need to listen for what wants to happen. What does that mean? Life is kind, generous, and seems to have only one intention: to give you everything you need.
Surrendering to what wants to happen is having that profound faith in the goodness of the universe. When there is a door that is closed in front of you, do not take a hammer and break it down. Shift your orientation and look for a door that is actually open. And do not quit if it takes some time. Look for the open door and you will fly, you will soar. You will discover a world you didn’t expect.
Experience the miracle of the immense scale of possibilities.
This chapter is about the feminine and the masculine. On this Earth, we cannot have an imbalance and experience joy: neither masculine energy nor feminine energy can dominate. The joy and deep satisfaction we are all looking for can only result from the union of the two, regardless of the gender of the person. Masculine energy is dominant, issues directives, is protective and strong, and is geared toward action and results. We all have some of this.
Feminine energy is like an ocean, with its power and life-giving qualities. Being totally fluid and malleable, the feminine changes form and expression quickly, going from dead calm to tempestuous, from beauty to danger, from comfort to rage, all in the context of love. We all possess some of this as well.
One energy allows the other to thrive, giving each other the opportunity to exist, to express light and wisdom, like the land allows the birth of a river with its unstoppable flow, forcing it around mountains and reliefs, calling it to hide underground or to plummet through a plain to finally throw itself into the sea and meld with the whole while the land is unknowingly being carved and shaped by the river. Enjoy.
How many times in your life have you been through the cycle of the death and rebirth of the phoenix?
Once you connect to your essence, when you let yourself be connected to the spiritual, you will have gifts. Literally, you will be taken care of. Masters will show up on your path. Not to believe them, not to follow them blindly, but to spend a moment of your journey with them so that you can learn and grasp what they have discovered. Make it yours. You will not be with them forever, you do not need to be with them forever. But as both an individual and as part of the whole, there is much to learn from others. Have the humility, the curiosity, and the gratefulness to receive what they have to give to you.
Eternal means no time, as in timeless. Therefore, this is it, right now. Goals and projects are empowering if they are experienced and appreciated in the present through consistent actions: it is not about arriving somewhere but about loving the road we choose to follow moment by moment: it is the future, NOW.
Hope lives in the realm of fantasy, creates a false temporality, and leads to suffering due to the underlying deprivation experienced in the present. It is the illusion of living as if all will turn out ONE DAY.
Dreams can be as powerful as prayers. Intentions create a reality if we align our life values, principles, and commitments with them. They can be an energetical road map for our beingness.
Turn on the light of awareness: joy and love are not something we acquire. Joy and love GET us when we surrender to timelessness.
The secret is in being aware of always and only being in the moment of right now. We are never going anywhere.
The source of survival is fear. Fear is the source of the refusal of the call to adventure.
Roosevelt said, "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself."
Fear of life, fear of failing, fear of not pleasing, fear of losing everything, not to be loved, to get hurt, to hurt others, to feel pain, not to understand, not to be accepted, not to exist, fear of our power, fear of being dominated, of intimacy, of others, of love, of change … our life is kidnapped by our fears, acknowledged or not. One of our greatest fears is having a bad reputation.
Fear can make us act, think, speak like everyone else. Fear can make us give up our dreams and hopes. Fear can make us renounce our beliefs and principles.
Osho said, "Go into your fear. Silently enter into it, so you can find its depth. And sometimes it happens that it is not very deep."
Where is the enemy, we are so frightened of? Where is the enemy if it is not the domination, the survival, the feeding frenzy on each other, the inequalities, the righteousness, the children dying of hunger, the people living in the street, the money running our world, things being more important than people and relatedness, borders being more important than people. Said in a more succinct way: what is there to fear, other than fear?
The difficulty of incarnation on Earth, is that we forget our Divinity very soon after our arrival in our body. If you look at your life with all its noise, its up and downs, its successes and failures, its challenges and rewards. The people you meet, the people you leave, the one that dies, the one you love. The beauty and the ugliness, the grace and the falls, the despair and the joy. It all occurs as an epic journey. Hearing the call of the soul is to remember that all epic journeys will take us all back to who we really are. From the Divine, the breath of Creation gives rise to infinite souls. Those souls then choose their own incarnation’s path, and in an endless sacred circular movement, will eventually go back to the spiritual and merge into the Divine again. All of that takes place inside of love.
Forgetting who we really are is the beginning of the identification merry-go-round, called survival.
We forget that we are eternal, divine and immortal. We forget that we are consciousness.
We then live the cruel illusion of separateness devoured by the question, ‘what if I was not?’.
We use our senses to find our way in life while our senses are only directed outwards.
We identify with something that is not us while in fact everything happens where we are.
“A kind of light spread out from her. And everything changed color. And the world opened out. And a day was good to awaken to. And there were no limits to anything. And the people of the world were good and handsome. And I was not afraid anymore.”
- John Steinbeck, East of Eden
Existential boredom is the last place before spiritual breakthrough.
When you are able to cope with life’s circumstances- not that it doesn’t occur as a problem- but problems have become neither good nor bad. They are just ‘what is’. When you stand in the space of love, having given up needs, opinions, judgments, wants, attachments; when you are accepting of the symphony of life as a way of being, there are no more motivational energies like emotions, feelings, or reactions that can be the catalyst to push you into action.
Then the question is, “What am I doing here? This game is quite boring!” That space is profound and difficult at the same time, until you surrender. And one more time, love is the kinetic energy that will have you create a life of seva, a life of selfless service, a life of contribution. You will then shift from fulfillment to perfection.
Guided by your soul’s intention in incarnating you, authentic power resting in the palm of your hand, spirit speaking and supporting you, grace and miracles available, your mission becomes your calling. An irresistible sacred call. You live in eternal gratitude to be able to embody, on this beautiful planet, the very essence of your soul.
I call this: Soul-expression.
And as there is always more, there will come a time when the last attachments will need to disappear. The safety of a master, the comfort of a teacher, the umbrella of a mentor, will need to leave the place for you to arise. The disappearance of all human hierarchy will create the necessary void for you to take us all to a new level of consciousness. This is your time to share your essence with the world, to leave a trace of a perfume that is uniquely yours. No teacher or course work can give you the gift of consciousness, only the doorway to it.
Now you’re on your own, you need to be the originator of the rest of your journey.
You are now stepping into your Act 4.
Thank you for being on this journey with us, and congratulations on completing the course.
